Born with heart disease, Maddie grew up navigating physical limitations in a world that constantly encouraged her to push past them. She was a gymnast as a kid and in high school she found her place in marching band, one of the few activities where she felt her body could keep up. Maddie tried sports like cross country, soccer, and field hockey, but none of them ever felt like home, but more of a social experience.
It wasn’t until 2019 that Maddie discovered her love for yoga and that’s when everything clicked. She finally found her sport. A practice that challenges, humbles, and inspires her daily. Yoga became the space where she felt like “yeah I can actually do this!”
It takes time, practice, and patience.
Growing up in a small town in Maryland, yoga wasn’t widely accessible. Moving to the West Coast exposed Maddie to a vibrant, diverse yoga community. That’s when she found my home here at PLAY. Surrounded by inspiring teachers and a supportive community that continues to deepen the practice and love of yoga.
Maddie’s hope is to share this practice with as many beings as possible, so it can change their lives the way it has changed hers. There is a seat for everyone at the table, and you are always welcome on the mat.
